The challenge for this newspaper redesign project was to update the look of the Wall Street Journal to attract younger readers without alienating their main readership. I was inspired by the clean and clever design of Bloomberg Businessweek, which has successfully gotten me to read a magazine about business and finance. The readership of the Wall Street Journal is older and largely conservative. My design is much more reserved than Bloomberg, but still feels contemporary and cool. The writing is very direct and I wanted the design to reflect that, but there is still a sense of wit in the color and the logo.
